NOVENEX Toolbox Talk — Manual Handling — Save Your Back
Health & Wellbeing · ±6 minutes · novenex.tech/toolbox-talks
A damaged back rarely comes from one heroic lift; it comes from a thousand bad ones. Discs wear like brake pads — and there is no replacement schedule for a spine.
Before the lift
- •Ask first: does this need lifting at all? Trolley, pallet truck, hoist, or a second person.
- •Size it up — awkward beats heavy; test the load's balance before committing.
- •Clear the route: doors open, floor dry, destination ready.
The lift itself
- •Feet shoulder-width, load close to the body, grip firm.
- •Bend the knees, keep the natural curve of the back, lift smoothly with the legs.
- •NEVER twist under load — move your feet to turn.
- •Team lifts on one person's count.
Discussion — ask the crew
- Which regular task here most needs a mechanical aid?
- Demonstrate the difference between twisting and stepping around under load.
